I and Masresha Ayele have been married since October 2009. I have been in Christian service for the last 14 years. I sensed God’s special call on my life while in high school. God began preparing me for the mission field right from the early 19th. My missionary journey began early 1996 with Youth with a Mission Kenya where I was trained and started serving as a program trainer. I served within the East Africa region (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania). In 1998, I went to South Africa Youth with a Mission to attend the School of Biblical studies where God opened a great opportunity for me to feed on his word. Later on I realized a need to go for more specialized training to equip myself and God answered my prayer in the year 2000 when I joined Daystar University (one of the best Christian Universities in Africa). I took a double major in Biblical and Religious studies, and Communication/Public Relation Concentration. I graduated with a B.A degree and have seen how well the Lord prepared me for all the service opportunities I had right after graduating in the year 2003.
I Choose Life Africa (a Kenyan based international organization), recruited me from Daystar University on graduation, on the basis of the influence I had among the student body at Daystar as a student where I led different programs. I choose Life Africa took me on as a program trainer and I got different level of responsibilities and left the organization as an assistant Program manager in the year 2005. In the same year, I got employed by Compassion International Ethiopia where I still serve as a senior program officer.
I got married in the year 2009 to Masresha. Masresha is a graduate of one of the public Universities in Ethiopia in the field of Accounting (B.A degree). She is currently working for SIM (one of the largest missions in Africa) as project coordinator.
Currently we have begun sensing the Lord’s call to be more directly involved in disciplining the nations for God’s purpose. We are thinking of involvement in missions beyond the boundaries of Ethiopia. Our heart is on fire for the Lord and we are praying and seeking the Lord’s guidance. We could almost touch it though we can’t see it yet.
My journey of missions began with YWAM (Youth with a Mission) Kenya. My wife had no involvement or even knowledge of YWAM. I never got to share with her the marvelous experience I had with YWAM. Four months into our marriage, she began being crazy about doing DTS (Discipleship training school). I looked at her with disbelieve the first time she mentioned it. She told me one of her friends has joined YWAM as a DTS staff in the US. Now all she can openly dream about is doing a DTS. Deep in my heart, I was amazed. It felt like God is preparing us for something special. I always knew that God was waiting for me to get married before moving me to where he wants me. My wife’s passion has made it vivid that he bound us together for a purpose.
Her dream of a DTS made me think if may be God wants me back in YWAM. That would be a perfect opportunity if it can materialize but I am waiting with eagerness where God will take us. All we know is we are supposed to move from Ethiopia for some reason. God has confirmed that over and over though we do not know where to.
We also think may be the Lord wants to take us back to school to equip us more for the higher calling and responsibility he is going to entrust us with. Studying together as husband and wife will help us develop unity of purpose and will enable us to bring clarity of mind and heart on our calling and commitment to service. With regards to this, we are trying to take steps to apply to various institutions just in case this is supposed to come first.
Our heart is filled with expectations of how the Lord is going to meet us to take us to where he wants. In human terms, it sounds silly to dream of involvement in missions beyond the boundaries of Africa for an African. It is true that the African churches with some exceptions have never been able to send missionaries to the west. This has never deterred God’s plan at all. There are some African Missionaries in the west whose life is a living example of how God uses anyone he wants. There is no boundary restrictions set to limit who God uses where.
It is interesting that the Lord does not shower us with Mena from heaven the way he did in the Old Testament, but he is going to use other people or organizations he has set aside to support his ministry. It will be interesting for us to see who God is going to use to fulfill his plan for us. We are waiting for a miracle to happen with nothing of significance in our hand to take us to where we are going (we do not even know where), except our little experience, willingness to go and a heart full of passion to do his will.
If you know of any organizations who are committed to sedning missionaries, you may let us know.
